School children in West Cameroon – School Project 2026/2027

In the school year 2026/2027, we are enabling 160 orphans, internally displaced and other disadvantaged children in Limbe, Buea and Tiko to attend school.

Since 2014, COMIHAS and its German partner organisation Vivantes Humanitas e.V. have been raising donations every year so that disadvantaged children in the west of Cameroon can go to school. Although school attendance is compulsory in Cameroon, many children in the west of the country cannot attend classes. Without money for school books, materials or uniforms, girls and orphans in particular are excluded from school. Since 2016, the political crisis in the region has displaced countless people and made the situation of many children even worse.

Good news first: Last school year, thanks to our donors and the dedicated work of COMIHAS and the head teachers, 62 girls and boys in Limbe, Buea and Tiko received school books, materials, uniforms and fees – and all of them successfully completed the school year!

The challenge: This year, 480 children were identified in the three communities who depend on outside support to attend school (last year it was 420). Although we cannot reach all of them, we are trying something new this year: instead of fully equipping 50 to 60 children with books, materials, uniforms and the mandatory Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) levy, the head teachers identify exactly which children can attend classes with just one of these forms of support.

We therefore collected:
• school books and PTA levy for 50 children (€35 + €5 each)
• exercise books and school materials for another 50 children (€26 each)
• school uniforms for another 60 children (€14 each)

Thanks to our donors, we reached our goal in September 2026! The school books and materials are purchased locally, and the uniforms are made by tailors from the communities. Regular classes start in October, and small handover ceremonies will take place in the three schools. All participants work on this project 100% on a voluntary basis.

The children are selected in close consultation between the schools and COMIHAS. The project manager on site is Mr Etandow Randolf Agbornkwai, who has supervised the school campaigns since 2014. Vivantes Humanitas e.V. (represented by Karin Beese) is responsible for the project in Germany and for transferring the donations to COMIHAS.
